KENT COUNTY ASA – report for the THIRD WEEKEND

Although no medals this weekend we still had swimmers recording Pb’s and Club Records most of them in the 50 Fly

Charlie Carter started the weekend off with 8th in the 200 breast and Samir Nadori recorded a big Pb in his 200 Back with a 2.41.58 to come 11th in his age group while Luka Seddon swimming in her first County Champs had a storming 50 Back to record 39.89 and after slipping on the start this was a great swim.Mark Preston was the closest to a medal after coming 4th in the 400 Free to record a 6 second Pb.

On the second day of this final 2007 Championships the boys 50 Back went extremely well with Joe and Chris both beating there Pb’s by a second Joe 32.23 and Chris 31.30 to come 5th in his age group and Dominic had a fantastic swim to record an all time best swim of 30.84 and in a Club Record time at the same time.

In the 200’s Nicola swam in the 200 free to record a 2.24.64 while Mark took 10 seconds off his entered time but was unfortunately DQ’ed for a faulty start. In the 100 free Dave Hummel was not too well and it showed in his time but Dom went under the minute for first time in the mens 100 Free to record 59.00 exactly.

To finish the weekend off nicely the 50 Fly proved very successful Freddie Eastwell making his one and only appearance gained a Club Record to go 34.98 and still a lot more to come especially after a poor finish. Mark Preston also recorded a Club record – of 29.67 and to finish the Whole Champs off with a great swim Nicola Oelman also went another Club record 29.12 in the 50 Free

4 Bronze Mark Preston (2) Craig Jackson and Chris Oelman
2 4th Places Mark Preston and Nicola Oelman

KENT COUNTY ASA – RESULTS for the SECOND WEEKEND

If the first weekend was good then the second weekend was even better with swimmers coming back with 10 top 6 placings and 4 Club Records

Mark Preston won his second Gold of the championships in the 100 Free leading from the start Mark recorded a Club record time of 57.75 to win in convincing style from his peers. He also won silver in the 50 Back to come home in 31.89 and 5th in the 1500m swim all in regional Qualifying times

While Craig Jackson had a swim which was just 6 seconds out of his National Time in the 1500m event to come 2nd in his Age group and 2nd in the Senior and Junior Boys event. The boys 15/16 and Junior Medley and Freestyle teams started the weekend off coming 1st reserve for the Final in all but the 15/16 Boys Freestyle team as they were 2nd reserve the swimmers were Craig, Mark, Joe Fitzsimmonds, Callum Fraser, Josh Newton and Chris Oelman, Charlie Carter.

Chris Oelman also showed great natural ability when coming 3rd in the 50 Fly to record not just a Pb but also achieved his first Club Record and what looked like a poor last 10m, this time will come down to the 28’s very shortly. Chris picked up a second medal in his 200 Back recording 2.30.76 well under his Pb, with Dominic Norton just missing out on the medals to come 7th in his Age group in a pb time of 2.23.91.

Not to be out done his twin sister Nicola came 5th in the 200 I/m and went a pb in her 100 Free to record another Club Record and a time of 1.04.70 and a 100 Back time of 1.14.19

Newcomers Luka Seddon 40.30 (50 Fly) 34.09(50 free) Harry Child 39.41 (50 Back) and George Evans had good swims but George also recorded a Club record in the 11 years 50 Back of 40.81.

Dave Hummel was our last swimmer to win a medal at the weekend coming in 6th in the 100 Breast in 1.19.21 while Charlie Carter went under the 1.20 barrier for only the second time to record 1.19.85 and came 8th overall in the 15 age group

In all the swimmers have won 10 medals over the Saturday and Sunday and we have now come home with 19 medals in total and 12 club records and with some swimmers not choosing to swim in there entered events it could have been more and we have another weekend to go.

GOOD LUCK THIS WEEKEND SWIMMERS

KENT COUNTY ASA – RESULTS for the FIRST WEEKEND

What a good start to the Kent County Swimming Championships 2007 which were held at The Black Lion Leisure Centre 17th and 18th February.

Mark Preston had an exceptionally good weekend with a clean sweep of medals winning the 14 years 50 free easily and just missing out on his National Time by 3 one hundredths of a second in an outstanding time of 25.85 2nd in the 100 I/M by just 1/10th of a second (1.08.37) 3rd in the 100 back (1.09.94) and also 3rd in the 200 free after leading the race at the 50m mark.

Nicola Oelman was the next most decorated swimmer coming home with 3 placing in 3 events 4th in her age group 50 Back 33.58 5th in the 15 years 50 Fly 32.11 and 6th in the 100 I/M she was on her way home when she got a call to say she had made the Ladies 100 I/M final and had to turn round quickly and recorded an impressive 1.12.52 point 37 seconds faster than her heat time of 1.12.89 while brother Chris came 13th in his best short course 25m time of 1.09.23 in the 100 Fly

New comers to the Counties were Luka Seddon and Freddie Evans both recording good swims for there first time Fred 39.78 in the 50 Free and Luka 1.28.59 in the 100 I/M while Dave Hummel and Joe Fitzsimmonds were back at the Kent’s for the first time in years. Samir Nadori took 2 seconds off both his official 200 and 50 Breast swims to record Personnel Best times in both events in 3.04.57 and 38.83 seconds respectively

In the older age groups Dominic Norton was disappointed in his 100 Back even though he was only .2 outside his best but along with Craig Jackson had some great split times both splitting in 32.4 and coming back in 34’s to record 1.06.61 and 1.06.42.

It was Craig who set the tempo of the weekend coming 3rd in the 200 Free with a time outside his best of 2.05.48.

A good start to the Kent Championships with no fewer than 13 Pb’s 8 Club Records
1 – Gold Place – 1 Silver place – 3 bronze places 1 – 4th place – 1 - 5th place and 2 - 6th placings that is a great start
