Jack Petchey Achievement Scheme.

Greenwich Swimming Club has been successful in being
accepted, from September 2006, for inclusion in the Jack
Petchey Achievement scheme.
This scheme enables clubs to recognize the effort, endeavor and achievement
of young people in a practical and positive way.
Each month club members, parents and staff are able to nominate a swimmer
aged between 11 and 25 to receive the award. The committee will discuss
the
nominations and choose a recipient.
Each month ONE young person is selected to receive an Achievement Award.
The month's winner receives a framed certificate and a cheque (payable
to
the club) to be spent on a club project of the recipient's choice.
A medallion is also presented to each winner at the Presentation evening.
Thanks to our club secretary, Lesley Bryant, for researching and instigating
this scheme for our club.
Please do not hesitate to nominate members for this award.

Who is Jack Petchey?

Jack Petchey was born in July 1925 in the East End of London, from a background
with very few advantages he became a prominent businessman and
property developer.
In
1945 at the end of the Second World War Jack Petchey left the navy and
became a clerk. He was told by the personnel officer of his firm: "You'll
never make a businessman". However, this discouraging remark did
not prevent him from becoming one of the most successful entrepreneurs
in Britain!
Although many charitable projects have been supported in recent years
by Jack Petchey, a Charitable Foundation was formed in 1999 to support
projects in East London and West Essex. This scheme is now expanding into
southeast London.
Jack
Petchey has been appointed an Officer of the Order of the British Empire
in the Queens Birthday Honors on June 2004, for services to young people
in East London and Essex through the Jack Petchey Foundation.
